Red Cross Degree
LECTURE
Why do you wear that emblem?
What emblem?
That red cross?
Because I am a true believer.
In whom are you a true believer?
In him who bore his cross, and died for the transgressions of all mankind.
Who is he that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Boz-rah?
He that is red in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength, mighty to save.
Why was he red in his apparel?
Because he has trodden the wine press alone. Of the people, there were none with him. Therefore he shall tread them in his anger trample them in his fury, their blood shall be sprinkled on his garments, and he shall stain all his raiment.
Was there none to help?
He looked and there was none to help him, he wandered there was none to uphold. Therefore his own arm brought salvation unto him and his fury upheld them.
Have you the password of the Knights of the Red Cross?
I have.
Will you give it to me?
I will if you begin.
And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Why do you take King of Kings and Lord of Lords as your password?
Because of the great King that reigneth over the city of the New Jerusalem.
Read a detailed exposure of the Royal Black Institution:

Twelve thousand furlongs.
What breath was the city?

w was the city formed?
Foursquare.
How many gates hath the city?
Twelve.
How are they placed?
Three in the east, three in the north, three in the south and three in the west.
How can you open these gates?
By having a true belief in the innocent blood of Christ that was shed in atonement for the sins of the whole world.
How many foundations hath the city?
Twelve and in them the names of the twelve Apostles of the lamb.
Have you a number?
I have.
What is your number?
Twelve times twelve.
Why do you take twelve times twelve for your number?
Because of the tree of life, which groweth in the midst of the street of the city, bearing twelve manner of fruit, yielding its fruit twelve times a year and its leaves are a healing for the nations.
Have you the great and grand password of the Knights of the Red Cross?
I have.
Will you give it to me?
I did not so obtain it, neither will I give it, but finding you to be a brother, I will word it, or divide it, with you.
Word it and begin.
No begin you.
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
ADDRESS
The emblems worn for this degree are the red cross, the lamb and the key. The red cross is the symbol of redemption purchased by the redeemer in the sacrifice of himself, and is represented in the lamb that under the law was offered as an oblation for the sins of the whole world. The key is the Holy Scriptures that were effectively used by the Apostles to open the kingdom of heaven. By the amalgamation of these emblems we learn this lesson, that we manfully bearing our cross over the tempestuous seas of time, a lamb like offering the sacrifice of a contrite spirit we may too use the key of knowledge to open the gates of that eternal city which standeth foursquare whose builder and founder is God.
